Ask Pat: When should I order my veil and accessories?

Dear Pat: I have chosen my wedding gown and have made an appointment this weekend to return to the boutique to purchase it, but was wondering if I needed to also purchase my veil and accessories then? I’m not sure how long accessories take to come in. Any info you could provide would be helpful!

Great question! Most accessories take at least 4 months after being ordered to arrive, so you do not necessarily need order them at the same time as the dress (most brides typically order the dress nine months before the wedding). Just keep in mind that choosing the perfect veil and jewelry without having the dress on to see how it all looks together can be difficult, especially if you want to be sure the color of the veil matches the shade of white or ivory you ordered your dress in. After you purchase the dress the next time you’ll have the chance to put it on again is likely during your first alterations appointment a few weeks before your wedding–by that time it might be too late to order anything without paying extra to “rush” the order.

One gown, endless possibilities!

Every once in awhile we stylists get asked if we have a favorite gown–while it’s hard to choose just one, this silk ball gown from Justin Alexander is definitely one of our favorites, because it’s so easily customizable!

It’s a flattering silhouette on all body types, and we’ve had brides add different types of straps, sleeves, jackets and belts to it, creating gorgeous custom looks. Here are a few examples!

In the photos above, our bride Elizabeth paired her gown with scalloped lace cap sleeves. They added a soft touch to her gown, and the look worked perfectly with her fall wedding!

When she first arrived to shop for a wedding gown, our bride Sara was torn between the simple silk ball gown and another gown that had an illusion front and off the shoulder sleeves–we were able to combine both looks by creating a custom lace jacket with the neckline she wanted, easily paired with the silk ballgown. She also added a custom beaded sash to add a touch of sparkle to her look. It turned out great, and she had the option of taking the jacket off after the ceremony so that she could bust a move out on the dance floor.

Cameron wanted something elegant but wasn’t comfortable going strapless on her big day, so we added straps to her dress! We used matching fabric to create ruched, silk, slightly off the shoulder straps to create a look she loved.

Our bride Amanda fell in love with the simple silk ballgown, but after thinking it over decided she wanted to find a way to add the lace illusion neckline style she loved to the gown–we obliged! She worked one on one with our in-house designer to choose the lace and shape of the illusion top she wanted added to the dress.

Don’t you agree that every time a bride has customized this gown it’s been gorgeous? And easy! Our designer and team of seamstresses would love to help you customize your gown too! Just visit http://sealedwithakissbridal.com/appointment to request an appointment!

Real Sealed With A Kiss Bride: Shasta and Andrew

Congratulations to our Sealed With A Kiss bride Shasta and her new husband Andrew! They were married May 20, 2017, but their love story has been years in the making– 11 years to be exact!

Portraits 8.jpg

According to Shasta’s mom, Debbie, Andrew told her way back then that one day he would marry Shasta–she thought nothing of it. Little did she know that the two of them were truly meant to be.

Getting Ready 62

They were married at the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia, in a lovely ceremony in font of their friends and loved ones.

Shasta came to us early on in the wedding planning process, not knowing how long it might take her to find the perfect wedding gown. She ended up saying yes to the dress that very day–a gorgeous beaded ball gown from Casablanca Bridal.

We are so blessed to be able to call Shasta a Sealed With A Kiss bride. Congratulations and best wishes to you and Andrew!

This wedding was particularly special to us because both the bride and groom are friends and fellow Charlottesville wedding vendors. We were so happy that Lisa came to us for help finding her dream dress.

Lisa chose a light gold ballgown with ivory lace from Lillian West for her big day. She looked gorgeous in it.

Sheena chose a gorgeous design from Augusta Jones Bridal for her wedding day. It was not a design we usually have in store–she happened to schedule her appointment during a trunk show weekend, and she just fell in love with the dress the moment she put it on.
